With one of my thermostats, I started over with the installation, and after finish, it updated. Don't know if this work for you.

2 wires and 2 terminals, just connect, it dosen't matter.

It could be the thin black U connection.

Try to remove this and se if the boiler is stopping.

Yes you can use this thermostat, potential-free contact is just a powerless contact.

Hi John

1. I don't think rechargeable batteries is ok for this, they have only 1,2 volt, 3 gives 3,6 volt. Alkaline gives 4.5 volt, so you start with 0.9 volt below. Why use rechargeable?

2. The thermostat can't work when there is no power in the batteries.

My guess: You have 2 choises, central heating for the house or individuel heating room by room. And a guess more, if you vant to use the new radiator valves, you need to run the pump all day. You can use a low energy pump also.
