Steph,

the solution you propose looks good indeed... I'll try that next week

This forum gets more and more unreadable.
Please set up some moderators to delete spam as the first step. And prevent SPAM. Is there no strong CAPTCHA to registrate to this forum?

I just don't understand how bots can create user's in the forum... The user creation form has two security questions...

Well to be honest the first question ist the easiest:

Are you a spam bot ʔ: *
Please answer "No" to proceed to the registration.

All is in plain text so all bots can acutally read what you want from them. Every better bot can answer this question.

The second one is a random question also in plain text like:

How many legs do you have ?:
This question is a means of preventing automated form submissions by spambots.

Even this question is a common one in php forums. So I have to guess that most bots have those in their databases.

Don´t underestimate modern spam bots. Even moderate picture based captcha´s can be solved. Thats the reason why all new captchas are even difficult to read by humans...

I would suggest a bunch of measures to prevent spam. Implement modern captchas, filter messages by users as suggested in an early post and let some moderators delete spam messages and users!

Obviously, they are coming back.
It could come from the regular registration form, through other registration API, through security holes...
Any way, the best way is probably to have a broad spectrum policy ;)
- Review registration form
- Patch PHP and MySql
- Identify moderators
- Review registered users to track bots

Regards,

QQ.
