What is the IP address of my weather station?

Post by oyvindo » 18 Jul 2020, 17:17

As the headline says: How can I find the IP address of my Netatmo weather station?

When I check the Netatmo App settings on my Galaxy phone, I can find the MAC address of my main device (but not for the slave device). But there's no way to find its IP address.
It does not show up in the list of devices in my LAN/WLAN when I use Fing to scan the network.

Hope someone can answer this.

Hi,
The Netatmo weather station is not always connected. So you may have look on a time range when it is not.
If you network is managed by dhcp you should find it
example on the screenshot attached;

On the opposite the camera is always connected

Actually, the WS V3 is always connected (or should be) - the WS V2 only connects every 10 minutes and is otherwise disconnected.

Hello, I can offer my observation based on some network analysis. I am running a Weather Station v2 with firmware 177.

What I see is that the Netatmo will request a DHCP reservation every 10 minutes. After receiving an IP address, it will do a DNS query... in my case, the query is for nv2-namain-deco.netatmo.net. It gets a reply from the DNS server, which then triggers the station to send a bunch of data to one of the addresses in the DNS response. This data appears to be encrypted, although the MAC address of the station is passed in cleartext.

Once it finishes -- within a few seconds -- the station will then RELEASE its DHCP lease back to the network.

This will explain what you perceive as "instability." In fact it appears to be by design; the system will connect to the network, transmit updates, and disconnect every 10 minutes.
