Does the rain gauge tolerate frost?

Post by MGR1 »

We live in a frosty climate here in Norway. I wonder if the Netatmo rain gauge can cope with frost?

Bump.

Does anyone know if it tolerates frost? Netatmo specs has no info about that.

A rain gauge that does not tolerate frost would be pretty useless up here. It can rain during the day, and freeze over at night, in the spring and autumn.

No, it actually says to remove it, and not leave it out in freezing temps.

How does this thing work, anyway? Does it let the water out, or does the water accumulate and has to be poured out by the user? If the device does let the water out itself, then it should be no problem?

It works like this:

It's a bucket system, that let's the water out by itself. You don't have to touch it after setup.

I never took it off last winter.. I think they only suggest to take it off when it's snowing too much.

EDIT: I found this on the twitter account:
hello! it's OK to leave the RG outside up to -20°C (-4°F). For cooler temperatures, it's recommended to bring it on.
=> so no problem:)

Now after 6 years outside I can say that it works just fine even through icy winters here in Norway :-).
