Baxi boiler and Netatmo thermostat

Post by sargro »

Hello,

I have a Baxi Duo-Tec Compact+ 20 GA condesing combi boiler, and I am planning to buy the Netatmo thermostat. I currently do not have any thermostat
I have attached a couple of photos, of the boiler manual and how the wiring looks like right now.

My questions:

1. I have hydronic underfloor heating on two floors, with one boiler. The system is high inertia. Will the thermostat work with my system and account for the high inertia?
2. As I understand, I would connect the thermostat wires to the terminals 1 and 2 on the boiler, where the loop right now is (will remove that), and the L and N wires should be connected to the L and N terminals in the boiler, together with the wires currently there, correct?
3. I currently do not have WiFi, as the house is under construction. Will it still work as a "dumb" thermostat for the time being, or will it require initial set up through WiFi?
4. The boiler uses 230v in the terminal block where the thermostat should be connected. The relay is capable of the 230v switching, correct?

Thank you

I can‘t say anything specific to question 1, but I can‘t think of any reason why not. Your system will be controlled by the Netatmo Thermostat‘s schedule and will react to the room temperature wherever you place the thermostat.

2: correct. The Netatmo Relaise will have 4 wires: Brown/Blue will go to the L/N and Black/Grey will go to the terminals 1/2, replacing the existing bridge.

3: might be a problem because you‘ll need wifi to set the system up.

4: not a problem. The Netatmo Thermostat can be used for low and high voltage systems, since only a circuit between two contacts gets closed when it switches on.

Great, thank you for your reply.
I guess for the Wifi Issue, using my phone as a hotspot for the installation, and then just leaving it without wifi, could be a solution, right?

Could be. You won't be able to use the app after that, obviously. And I can't say if schedules will work when the system has no internet connection.
But since this will be temporary, you could give it a shot.

Hi all,

I have the same Baxi boiler and have problem that the thermostat (relay) does not communicate with boiler.
In the atteched picture you can see original connection (without thermostat) / current connection (with thermostat).

Please can you help me where could I do a mistake or give me any tips?

Thank you

Wiring seems to be correct. Does the Relais‘ LED light up?

Ok, could you please give us more informations.
Where there any issues during the setup process in the app?
Doesn’t your boiler react at all when you press the button on the Relais?
If not, can you make a test by putting the bridge wire back in place to rule out the boiler itself?
Thanks.

There was not any problem with app setup.
I connected the relay to the boiler, then plugged power cable to power supply and if I start manually the relay it doesn't start the boiler. Also if I increase a temperature on the thermostat it does not start the heating on the boiler (see picture).
The boiler doesn't react at all when I press the button on the Relais.

Can you please more specify the last point? Should I disconnect all cables of thermostat and put the bridge back ? What I can find out if I do this?

Thank you for your time

I want to rule out wrong settings on the boiler.
Switch off the power, disconnect the Relais grey and black wires and replace them with the bridge wire that was installed.
Then switch the power back on.
If your boiler starts then the issue lies with the Relais.
If it doesn‘t start then we have to take a look at the boiler‘s settings.

Does the Relais make a clicking sound when you increase the temperature over the set-point?
Note: The Thermostat does too, so perhaps move it away before listening.
