What is the purpose of chime module ?

Post by VincentT »

The chime module (4) is an important piece of the whole smart video doorbell system.
Its goal is to allow more current to be drawn from the transformer (1) to the doorbell (2). Without the chime module, the doorbell would try to draw current through the chime (3) which may lead in buzzing or ringing it.

There are two use cases for the chime module :
- When the doorbell is running, the chime module acts as a resistor. This resistor depends on the position of the chime (HIGH is the highest resistor for 230VAC only and LOW2 is the lowest).
- When the button is pressed on the doorbell, the chime module acts as an open circuit to let all the current goes through the chime and it rings.
