Several Rain Gauge problems

Post by QWallyTy » 11 May 2014, 18:44

I like Netatmo weatherstation and was very happy when Netatmo announced the Rain Gauge.

Last week the sensor received and unfortunatelly there alre some problems.

Why has a sensor that costs more than 50 EUR no manual???
- no explanation of the sensor (function, …)
- no information if or how to calibrate the sensor
- no mount infos (that in the middle is a 1/4" camera screw hiole)
- that there are two additional holes to mount it with nails or little srews I realised after mail support told me
- no mounting tipps or mounting parts in the netatmo store

By now I can´t say if the sensor works under real conditions cause I´m still searching for a 1m pylon with a 1/4" screw

I´m very unsatisfied with this product so far.

You can use a table/floor microphone stand to mount the rain gauge (I bought a K&M 233), however you'll need a 3/8" to 1/4'' screw adapter.

There was no problem with the rain gauge. Sufficient information, excellent product. Some people really try to find reasons to nag. These are the persons in a restaurant, where the waiter usually asks: "Is there anything right"

I recently bought the rain gauge too. Setup and calibration worked perfectly.
But dear netatmo team *PLEASE* add the rain display also to the iOS 4 and 5 version off the app!
(I need to see the data on my old iPad 1st gen too)

Thanks nicolasd - might get those (if I can find them as cheap in the UK!) Out of interest, do you bury the base in the ground outside? I guess you need to do something to stop it from getting blown over.

Two things to note.

The base is heavy enough that no wind would blow it over. Maybe a hurricane, if the unit was on an inexpensive plastic table or something.

The other thing is that the stand is maybe 1ft (30cm) tall. It's meant for a desktop microphone. I believe Netatmo recommends the gauge should be 2-5 ft. (60-150cm) off the ground. I didn't know this before I bought it, but it would be a simple enough task to find a slightly taller stand.

You could bury it in the ground. Heck, you could put the base in a bucket and fill it with cement. :D

You can go to any music store and look at microphone stands... pick one you like. You'd want one with a nice heavy iron base, of course. The adapter, I think you'll find in any well-stocked camera store.
