Auto-adapt resetting to 30 minutes

I noticed today that my Thermostat, working fine for many years now, is failing to properly anticipate the heating on many occasions lately. I also have a Netatmo Weather Station working fine and showing outside temperature on the the Thermostat graph. No major changes happened to my system or rooms, everything is the same for 4 years.

Yesterday morning anticipation worked fine (starting at 4.57 am with a target at 7.00), then i switched the AWAY option till 16.00. The heating started at 15.30, trailing on the target temperature at 16.00. This morning same problem. Heating started at 6.30 and trailed at the 7.00 am mark and the now the 15.00 pm scheduled change has been anticipated at exactly 14.30. The majority of anticipations in the last days reset to the default 30 minutes. I experienced another weird one Saturday morning (1 December) when heating started at 8.30 am for a target temperature at 9.00, obviously not reached correctly.

Looking at my settings everything is just fine. Anticipation on YES, using the Weather Station as source of external temperature and the detail on anticipation duration says OPTIMIZED. I have never experienced connections problems in four years between relay and thermostat, everything has always been working really well so far.

Heating algorithm is set to ADVANCED (PID) and temperatures are maintained very well after being reached.

I found some past posts of people having similar problems and I read the problem could also be server side.
Anyone experienced something similar lately?

Relay firmware: 176 - Thermostat firmware: 65

I double checked the starting times in the morning for the last weeks (where the anticipation is more evident) and for the most part they worked fine, starting at 4.40 - 4.50 to reach the target mark at 7.00 or starting at the max 3 hours anticipation time (4.00) when outside temperatures where under 5 degrees celsius.

So it really got it wrong (default 30 minutes) Saturday morning (starting at 8.30 for a target at 9.00), yesterday after the AWAY settings (15.30 for a target come back at 16.00) and this morning (6.30 for a target at 7.00 where usually it starts between 4 and 5 in winter), where the target temperature has never been reached on time.

This randomness is really weird, even if the problems are emerging only in the last few days.

Same error this morning. Heating started only 30 minutes before the target time/temperature, no calculated anticipation at all...

The advanced Prediction algorithms need to know the outdoor temperature constantly.
If the Thermostat anticipates only about 30min, it means that the standard prediction timing is enabled because of missing outdoor temperature data.
Please check the connection reliability of your Weather Station to avoid such inconvenience (I can see that its Wi-Fi and radio signal strength are a bit weak).

Thanks a lot for your response and checks Brieuc.

You're right, the Wi-Fi strength is not optimal for my Weather Station internal module, but the position has always been the same for years. I can try to put the weather station in another place where the signal strengths are better.

I just opened a support ticket for my problem, I saw your response here only a few minutes ago after I sent my request on the Netatmo webpage. I put there all the screenshots showing the situation if you want to double check.

Hello Brieuc,

i moved the Weather Station to a much more reliable position to see if that's indeed the problem. We'll see tomorrow how it goes.

Hello Brieuc,

unfortunately moving the Weather Station didn't change anything. This morning the heating still started only 30 minutes before target time. With these outside temperatures usually the anticipation is 2.00 - 2.30 hours.

Last time it worked was on Monday morning. Monday afternoon I used the AWAY option for 6/7 hours and when it got back never anticipated correctly any more, resetting to 30 minutes. And I didn't change anything in my house. It started happening from nowhere.

Anticipation is OPTIMIZED under my settings:

I'm thinking about trying to switch to external meteo data, but at this point I'm not so sure that meteo data source is the problem.

I'm puzzled because I'm using this same Thermostat since 2014 and this never happened before.

Thanks for any help. I'll update my support ticket even if I haven't received any reply yet.

Hi cesco,
Thanks a lot for that information.
We will look into it ASAP and keep you updated.

Thanks a lot Brieuc, much appreciated!

I noticed another small detail: in my ANTICIPATION window I see that anticipation algorithm is ON, but under it I see the description telling me that it takes some weeks to properly calibrate. Seeing this message does indeed mean that my thermostat is re calibrating for some reason? Because I saw on the forum similar screenshot where under the anticipation switch there is no such description, maybe meaning that the anticipation is fully calibrated.
Thanks again.

Quick update: my relay has been unreachable for 10 minutes (maybe someone at Netatmo checked my Thermostat?) and when it came back it anticipated correctly the 15.00 scheduled change of temperature at 14.05 instead of 14.30. It is doing it right now.

On my side I did only two changes this morning:
- change the meteo source from Weather Station to local meteo
- made a very subtle change to scheduling

Will monitor he situation on the next change (tonight at 20.30) and the big one tomorrow morning.
