Rain Gauge and snow measurements?

Post by RetiredSteelWorker »

I do not have a rain gauge. Yet.

I'm curious to hear of experiences with snowfall. I presume when snow accumulates in the bowl it melts naturally, from solar radiation or ambient air temps above freezing, then the liquid water drips through to cause the mechanical accumulation thing to operate.

I also presume when a large amount of snow accumulates in the bowl it will form a inverted cone shape and the water equivalent will not be accurate.
